Aims and Objectives

The Head Start program is designed to cater to children’s individual abilities and interests, and aims to develop specific ‘school readiness’ skills and attitudes. Our objectives are based on the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG) and the five key learning areas of Identity, Connectedness, Wellbeing, Active Learning and Communication.

All children are treated as individuals, and our program reflects their abilities, interests and development.  A guideline to our overall objectives is as follows:

  • To develop a positive awareness of self

  • To develop appropriate social skills and self-confidence

  • To work at their own pace and ability levels so that they will feel a sense of achievement while working in a challenging yet supportive environment

  • To become independent (to be able to care for self and personal belongings, and to feel secure and confident away from family)

  • To participate in group activities (co-operating with others)

  • To develop physical skills

  • To develop oral language, literacy and numeracy skills/concepts

  • To develop thinking skills such as recall, reasoning and problem solving
