Parent Involvement

Parents play an important and valued role in the education of their child.

Parent participation in the program is essential to the success of the

program.  At Head Start, we value the input and assistance our families

give to our program.  For those who may wish to assist, you may be asked

to prepare collage materials, supervise children while they participate in

small group activities, sew some costumes for home area, assist with the

repair of equipment or prepare teaching aids and art / craft materials.

Additional parental responsibilities include:

  • Visiting the classroom and joining in the program (starting later in Term 1)

  • Supporting the parent group

  • Reading the notice boards and newsletters

  • Supporting and encouraging your child to develop a positive feeling about him / herself

  • Discussing your child’s development and related issues with your child’s teacher

  • Attend ‘class picnic’ days (once per term)

Parent Fundraising Group

All families are invited and welcome to attend and/or participate in the Parent Fundraising Group.  This may involve arranging functions for social, educational or fundraising purposes.  The group meets monthly and is a great way to meet new people and talk to other parents. (1st meeting of the year to be decided early Term 1)

On-going Communication and Feedback

We understand effective and appropriate communication is important to ensure both families and staff share relevant information about their children.  There is a variety of communication methods that we use at Head Start to ensure families are kept up-to-date with what is happening in the program on a day to day basis.  Please check noticeboards and display boards on a regular basis.

There will also be regular communication between Head Start and home via newsletters.  We have special pockets with your child's name so please check them regularly.  We ask that only adults collect newsletters/information from children’s pockets.  If you would prefer your newsletter is emailed to your family, please remember to indicate this on your child’s Enrolment Form. Communication books are also available in your child’s classroom so you can share important messages about your child with the teacher.

We love to hear your feedback about your child’s time while here with us at our service.  Your constructive feedback helps us to improve the quality of care and early learning your child receives. Please let us know if you have any concerns or questions.  We aim to address any concerns immediately in a professional and ethical manner.

Grievances and Complaints

If you have any concerns or complaints relating to the program, you should first discuss them with the class teacher.  If this is not possible, or if you feel your concerns are not addressed or resolved, please contact this service’s Nominated Supervisor or Responsible Person.  Alternatively, you can contact the Office of Early Childhood Education and Care, Ipswich on 3436 6202.
