Starting 'Head Start' Checklist

 

• Obtain your child’s Birth Certificate – this must be sighted upon enrolment

• Attend enrolment and orientation session so that you and your child become familiar with the program and expectations

• Attend enrolment interview to discuss family information in confidence with teacher

• Have your child’s hearing and eyesight checked

• Ensure vaccinations are up-to-date

• Practise walking or travelling to school

• Practise the things your child will need to do to get ready each day e.g. putting on shoes, packing things in their bag (lunch box, drink bottle, sheets)

• Establish a bedtime routine, including setting aside a time for reading

• Organise before and after school care, if required

• Ensure your child has the necessary equipment needed (see ‘What to Bring’)

• Label ALL your child’s belongings

• Be positive about your child’s first school experience and share in his/her excitement

• Make sure your camera is ready for the first day ☺
