Philosophy

Goodna Head Start program is committed to providing a service consistent with

the needs represented in individual families within our local community. We aspire

to providing a safe, nurturing, educational and fun environment for children supported by

families, the community and qualified staff.

We believe that children learn through play and that our play-based program

reflects the way children learn, grow and develop. We believe that children are naturally

curious about the world in which they live. Each child is supported by extending his/her

interests and fascinations through enquiry, hands-on learning, testing current theories

and recording children’s ideas.  Our program aims to foster the uniqueness and

creativity of each child, and encourages children to develop dispositions characterised by

perseverance and a willingness to engage in new learning.

We aim to provide experiences that foster children’s positive feelings and respect for themselves

and others regardless of race, gender, culture, ability or additional needs, and to recognise the

significance of each family’s culture, customs, language and beliefs.

We strive to form effective partnerships with families and stakeholders through trust, open communication and a commitment to working toward shared goals.  We are committed to inclusive curriculum decision making in collaboration with children, families, carers, colleagues, specialist support (e.g. Community Health, Paediatricians, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists) and local community.
